Introduction to the medium of watercolor. Students will learn the basic techniques in a step-by-step paint-a-long while creating their own pictures. List of supplies: Watercolor paper should be either an Arches Block 140lb, cold pressed 140lb, or (easiest) a Strathmore pad (avoid Canson brand paper). Watercolor pre stretched block (easiest) OR watercolor sheets or pad plus a board and gummed tape for stretching. Masking tape for dry mounting but will not work for stretching. Cold-pressed or rough paper is good. Gum eraser Sizes 6. 8, 10 synthetic or real round squirrel brushes (2) quart-sized plastic containers for water, no glass, pencil, kneaded eraser, masking medium, small natural sponge, large watercolor palette. Brushes: 2-3 round watercolor brushes with a point, one for detail. (1) one-inch flat watercolor brush. Table cover. Paint colors: Alizarin crimson, cadmium red, cadmium yellow, dioxazine purple, hooker's green, hookers green deep, French ultramarine blue, thalo blue, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, raw sienna, burnt umber, Grumacher brand Paynes Gray, and Cadmium Orange.
